It's now common knowledge that the grand old Wellington Grammar School is soon to be demolished, with its playing fields being sold off for housing.

We cannot stop this development, but Old Boys of the school deserve to have one last look around their "alma mater" and mark its passing into history.

Hello all.

I'm Phil, and I was at WGS from 1964 until 1969.

Thanks to the "Telford Journal" and "Shropshire Star" I've established that there is a

great demand for some form of event to commemorate Wellington Grammar School.

There is support from all modern eras (1940-1978).

This website is designed to show progress to date and allow for suggestions. Please have a look around and use the contact facilities to pass on any ideas you may have for shaping this event.

*Important Notes on Navigation*

There are pages not to be missed and which you'll probably want to check daily:

"Matters Arising" highlights any current issues. It appears as a sub-page beneath "Home" in the menu.

"Latest News" shows developments of the day and appears as a sub-page beneath "What Next?" in the menu.

UPDATE

An Explanation and Apology.

Wednesday 17th July, 2013.

It would be perfectly understandable if people are thinking I've lost interest or impetus.
I feel guilty about this and am genuinely sorry to all.
Please be assured I have lost neither interest nor impetus!
By way of explanation I will just say that cancer tends to re-align one's priorities, eat into time, and disturb the concentration somewhat!
The "event is most definitely still "on"!
I would be grateful if readers could pass this on to any who may not visit the website.
Thank you all for your understanding.

Timeline

There is a common misconception that the old school buildings are due to be demolished by October 2013, but I can confirm this is not the case.
Though work on the new school is due to start imminently, our old alma mater will still be standing until July 2014.

Latest Development

I have spoken wwith various people at the present day Ercall Wood School.
Because I will be abroad until at least 15/09, and also to allow the school to settle into its new academic year, I have arranged a meeting with the school's Head and its Business Advisor for Wednesday 25th September.
The local press have been informed of this, and I will report on the outcome of the meeting both here and in the media.

Delightful News!

I am delighted to report that I have spoken with Mr. Sykes, who was Deputy Headmaster in my era. It was wonderful to speak with "Sir" again after all these years! Though "the great man" declined my invitation to be a formal "Guest of Honour, he has agreed to attend our "event". Good news indeed!
