So far ...

On 21st June 2012 the "Telford Journal" printed a small feature under the headline, "Call for grammar school reunion".

The "Shropshire Star" followed a few days later with a similarly entitled article.

Thanks to this coverage it is clear there is a demand among Old Boys of all eras to arrange some form of event to mark the passing of the old place before it is razed to the ground and its playing fields sold off.

Where to now?

It has variously been called a "reunion", a "get together" or a "do".

Whatever term we use, there has to be an "event".

Overwhelmingly, Old Boys want the chance to have a last look around the school, meet up with old chums and show or see memorabilia.

Clearly, I have to speak with the current school's Principal to establish liaison.

We're also still at the stage of garnering as much support as possible, so let's all continue to spread the word. I'll also be talking to the local press with a view to follow-ups, and trying to enlist some support from Radio Shropshire.

Thank You.

I've had so many emails, I'm not going to mention everyone here, but from ...

Frank Fuller, who entered school in 1940,

to ...

Nick Burch & Neil Radcliffe, who were there in 1978 ...

and all points between, you have my thanks for all the tremendous support.

What Can You Do?

Apart from everyone spreading the word (keep it up!), I'd really appreciate some help using the "social media" to broadcast the "event".

I'm hopeless with the likes of Facebook, Friends Reunited, Twitter and LinkedIn, so if anyone has superior knowledge in those areas, please use it! Let me know what you're doing, and I'll give you a credit on the website.

Contact

Many of you already have my personal email address: carry on using that by all means. To make life easier, I've now set up the following email address which may also be used:

grammarschoolevent@hotmail.co.uk

Furthermore - Geographical "Pockets"

Whilst the majority of boys came from Wellington and its immediate area, there were small groups who came in by train or bus from Shifnal, Albrighton, Newport and Dawley. I'm receiving no response from these geographical "pockets". Does anyone have any ideas as to how we might make contact? Please let me know.
