Wellington Grammar School: the Farewell Event
A last chance for Old Boys to say "Goodbye" before the bulldozers move in.
Matters Arising
Here you will find any issues that have cropped up and which I could maybe do with some help on.
The Mystery of the Commemorative Garden
Several Old Boys have mentioned this one, and I must confess total ignorance as never during my time at WGS was such a thing ever mentioned.
There is no doubt there was a Commemorative Garden, but questions remain:
Where was/is it?
What was its purpose, and what did it include?
Importantly, was this ground consecrated in any way?
I have been able to establish that in 2010, Ercall Wood students, as part of a project, redesigned and landscaped a patch of disused school ground as a "place of peaceful learning", but was this the site of the Commemorative Garden.
Are any Old Boys able to shed light on this, please?
Please be in touch if you can shed any light on issues raised on this page.

...and What of the Memorial Plaque?
A memorial plaque in honour of Old Boys who perished in WWII was unveiled at the main school doors in 1948.
Apparently it mysteriously disappeared at some time.
Does anyone know what happened to it, or its current whereabouts?
Are They the Original School Gates?
At some time, the old school gates were removed to enable passage of heavy vehicles into the school (presumably for construction purposes), and were stored at the rear of the school, it is said, to be scrapped.
In 2004some Old Boys clubbed together to have the gates refurbished, and the gates which presently stand at the school were re-dedicated shortly after.
The question is, are the present gates the originals?
